Drawing / 2025

Mary of Palestine

A young pregnant figure in a shawl and patterned head covering stands beneath a pale halo, holding her belly against a dark sepia-toned landscape.

Mary is imagined as a young, heavily pregnant figure wearing a keffiyeh, her luminous halo set against a darkened landscape. Added graphite and erased passages build clothing, light and texture on previously used paper. The drawing brings inherited religious imagery into a reflection on the vulnerability, displacement and perseverance of Palestinian women.
